1. Artist Information

    benjamin s sawinski

Benjamin Sawinski is an artist and art director constantly busy in Orlando FL. He is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but he has traveled all over the world showing his art, and promoting other artists.

“I originally moved to Orlando around Aug of ‘10, just to help out some friends. I ended up doing an art show called The Masquerade Art Ball, run by a Harrison Mossley.” ”Since then Ive tried to support every artist Ive come across.”

Sawinskis’ creations have elements to them that are distinctly his own, but he has the ability to produce something that could appeal to any taste. Using a plethora of media he is able to create artwork that is beautiful, yet edgy and completely unique. Benjamins art has been described as low-brow, dark, and classy’. Everyone has their own take on it though, as it cannot be pigeon holed.

As for his art shows, well that’s a whole other matter. No one is turned away from a Sawinski art show. His motto of “If you can see any wall, there isn’t enough art” shows his dedication to giving every artist exposure. Benjamins creativity when laying out shows is truly inspiring. Recent showing in Orlando have included The Muppet Art Show, 1980s cartoon, 99 problems charity show, and the garage sale art show ( an unthemed gathering of which Benjamin himself proudly proclaims that “every artist who showed up sold something”).

Always busy, creating in one form or another. Make sure and keep a look out, he is hard to miss.

    Great American Hype @ Substance

    • Who knows why graffiti is so popular? We understand the impulse to create it – since there’s been paint and hands, humans have been making marks just to prove their existence – but why should anyone want to gaze upon another man’s doodle? And if that sounds like a gutter-minded pun, well, fair enough: This stuff springs from (and often lives in) the gutter. Orlando’s not the easiest place to throw up a piece, but the street-art scene is vital nonetheless – plenty of artists making it, and an audience that eats it up. The organizers of the Great American Art Hype promise “this ain’t no show with pretty landscapes and kittens in a basket. This is a bunch of bad ass art,” so maybe it’s the attitude, not the art, that appeals. This show at Mills 50’s Substance gallery features the work of Matt Johnson, Danny Rock, Benjamin Sawinski, Ernie Turner and Wolfrich – some of which can also be seen gracing neighborhood walls and utility boxes. – Jessica Bryce Young (8 p.m. at Substance Art Bar, 934 N.
